Free SKP to GLB converter
Convert SketchUp files to GLB
Drop in a .skp and get one .glb file with its textures inside, ready for Blender, the web, game engines and AR. The file stays on your device.
How to convert SKP to GLB
- Click Choose a .skp file above, or drag the file onto the box.
- Wait while your browser reads the model and writes the GLB.
- Click Download .glb. Open it in Blender with File › Import › glTF 2.0, or drop it into any glTF viewer.
What we checked
GLB is a strict format, and a file can open fine yet still look wrong. Before publishing this tool we ran its output through the Khronos glTF Validator, the official checker for the format, and fixed what plain SketchUp-reading libraries get wrong:
- Textures the right way up. SketchUp measures texture positions from the bottom of an image and glTF from the top, so a straight copy shows every texture upside down. Signs, labels and pictures come out reading the right way.
- True texture colors. SketchUp stores an average color next to each texture. Leaving it in makes glTF viewers tint the image darker, so textured materials are set to show the image as is.
- Components kept as components. A model with 50 identical chairs stores one chair and places it 50 times, the way SketchUp does, instead of 50 copies of the geometry.
- What you see is what you get. Hidden groups and anything on a hidden tag are left out, including the Google Earth terrain SketchUp adds, hidden, when you set a location.
- Real size. glTF works in metres with Y as up, and the model comes out at its real size whatever units it was drawn in.
To test it, we converted a 20 MB house model saved in SketchUp 2026. The GLB came out at 22.5 MB, with 415 groups and components sharing 150 meshes, 325,669 triangles, 119 materials and 45 texture images, and the validator reported no errors.
Where to use the GLB
- Blender: File › Import › glTF 2.0. Groups and components arrive as named objects in the Outliner.
- Websites: three.js, Babylon.js and Google's
<model-viewer>all load GLB directly. - Game engines: Godot imports GLB natively; Unity reads it through the glTFast package.
- AR: Android's Scene Viewer opens GLB. For iPhone, convert the GLB to USDZ.
What carries over, and what doesn't
Kept: geometry, colors, textures and their placement, transparency, group and component names, and the nesting of groups inside groups. Not kept: edges and lines with no face, since glTF only draws surfaces; tags as layers; scenes, dimensions and text. Materials are named by number, not by their SketchUp names.
Other ways to get a GLB from SketchUp
- SketchUp itself exports GLB in recent versions (File › Export › 3D Model, then glTF Binary). If your SketchUp opens the file, that's the most direct route.
- innerscene's SKP to GLB page also converts in the browser without uploading, and opens files up to 200 MB, twice our limit.
- Convert3D covers many more formats if GLB turns out not to be what you need.

SKP to GLB questions
Is this SKP to GLB converter free?
+
Yes. There's no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. The conversion runs on your own device, so there's nothing for us to charge for.
Is my SketchUp file uploaded?
+
No. Your browser reads the .skp and writes the GLB itself. We never receive the model.
What's the difference between GLB and glTF?
+
They're the same format. A .gltf is a text file that points to separate geometry and image files; a .glb packs all of it into one binary file. GLB is easier to share and upload, and anything that reads glTF reads GLB.
Are textures included?
+
Yes, inside the .glb itself. They're mapped the same way they look in SketchUp, at their original resolution.
Can I use the GLB for AR on a phone?
+
On Android, yes: Google's Scene Viewer and <model-viewer> on the web open GLB directly. iPhone's AR Quick Look needs a USDZ file instead, so you'd convert the GLB to USDZ first, for example with Apple's Reality Converter.
Why is my GLB so big?
+
Mostly geometry and texture images. Detailed components, curved surfaces and photo textures add up. For a website, run the file through a free optimizer such as gltf.report or gltf-transform to compress it and shrink the textures. We don't compress by default, because some apps can't open compressed GLB files.
Which SketchUp versions does it read?
+
Files from current SketchUp releases, including the 2021-and-later file format, and older files back to classic versions like SketchUp 8.
